Living Off The Land

jessica | August 31, 2015

My mamaw nellie and papaw ted had a large garden while i was growing up that supplied all five of their kids and their families with fresh vegetables for the year. Well, now that they are unable to get out there and plant/harvest the vegetables i thought what are we gonna do now!!! So, i thought why don’t i just have a garden of my own! And although we don’t have a lot of land, we are utilizing what we do have.

I’ve also been working on a few other things we’ll delve in to like…… beekeeping…..raising organic chickens…….

Hi, I am writting from NJ. I am originally from Honduras and growing up me and my family used to plant vegetables, fruits, and herbs. It is such a nice experience when you can just go to the back yard amd pick up fresh green beans, corn, watermelons, lemons, bananas, etc.

    Hi Jessica,
My Mom and Dad always grew vegetables for us too. We had potatoes,, carrots, turnips, cabbage, lettuce, peas, onions, and beets. My dad passed away but my mom just turned 80 and she still gardens some. Unfortunately, I did not inherit the green thumb but I remember the taste of fresh vegetables from the garden are always the best. Good luck with the growing. BTW,I am a huge fan of the show and love your family’s sense of values.

Happy for your blog. You and Jep are an inspiration to our family. In a world that seems to be spinning out of control, you two bring laughter and a sense a simple living back into focus. My wife and I may never meet you in person in this life, but I sure hope we get to spend time with you in eternity some day.

Your garden beds are gorgeous! How do you keep them so free of weeds? I live in Oregon and I can hardly keep up with the weeds! Eek!
P.s. You and Jep are the favorite Robertsons in this house. My husband and I can relate to the two of you way more than the others. 🙂

My neighbor has raised beds in her yard. Whenever we are washing dishes together & looking back there out the window My husband says that’s where she buries her boyfriends. I always say hmm her flowers always look so good. Free fertilizer. Don’t make me mad !:) Yours looks beautiful and i love the arch.

Gardening is such an amazing experience… now I see why my mom was always trying to get me into it as a child (not successfully). This is our second year gardening here in Wa. State, and it was such a hot summer, everything just went crazy! and we are totally hooked. And looking for bigger property haha.

This is very inspiring!!!! We are on the same road. I can’t wait to see where God leads us in the next few years. Just met with the owners of a local produce store near us in Illinois & found out that Jesus is the Lord of their lives too! He’s always got something up his sleeve… <3

I live in a tiny ski resort mountain town in Southern California, and unfortunately due to a late snow storm in May, I lost the majority of my first attempt at being a gardener, but thanks to the very warm summer, I have a beautiful crop of strawberries, apples, potatoes, garlic, chives, rosemary, chili’s, oregano, thyme and basil. I shall attempt beautiful veggies like yours next year! Looking forward to your favorite veggie recipes. Love the blog!

Square foot raised bed gardens are definitely the way to go. We used to have a huge garden and it was a lot of work. I was surprised at what I can fit in on of those babies!

    About Me
Hello! My name is Jessica Robertson and I’m married to the youngest Robertson, Jules Jeptha, and yes I love the BEARD!

I am so glad you could join me on this endeavor of life without the cameras. I hope this lifestyle blog will encourage you, inspire you, and down right draw us closer together.

Life is short, so let’s encourage and lift each other up. I’m passionate about life and believe The Cure is LOVE! Doesn’t matter where you come from or how old you are, we are all in this together and we can learn from one another.

I know that without my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I’d be lost. And I live with the peace that Christ died for my sins and rose from the grave and now isn in Heaven preparing a place for me, that’s what my hope is in, that one day I will live for ETERNITY in HEAVEN with my GOD.

I’m a blessed mama of four. I’m a lover of all things vintage. I’m an oldie at heart. I may have been born in the wrong century. I cry when anyone else cries, which my kids make fun of. I want to be a farmer when I grow up. And last but not least, I LOVE my mate!

Hope you can join me on this journey of life, cooking, gardening/living off the land, fashion/beauty, sewing/creating, Holiday’s, and more.

    Lets learn together!
